From the Chairman

It has been a disrupted start to the spring term, with some groups delaying their face-to-face get-togethers, and others reverting to Zoom meetings.  However, the majority of our Groups have met at our venues as originally planned.  We sincerely hope that conditions improve sufficiently for us to get back up to a full level of activity very soon.

There are currently several scams being reported in the press.

If you receive a text message about your vaccination which asks for bank details – delete the message, do not reply to it.

There is also a telephone scam purporting to be from HMRC,

if you receive one of these phone calls, hang up and do not give the caller any personal information.

Timetables and Venues Team

We are indebted to our Timetable and Venues team, who have been very busy since Christmas adjusting our spring schedule in response to concerns regarding the Omicron variant. The team are pictured here letting off a little steam during a recent social gathering!

Metal Working

We closed the workshop over the Christmas period and everyone had a well earned break after the rush to make Christmas presents and decorations. Illuminated stars and Christmas trees were popular – below.
We had to cancel our Christmas lunch at short notice as relatives of one of our members tested positive for COVID and several group members tested positive over the Christmas period. The good news is that in all cases symptoms were only mild. We are back in action in the workshop already and we now have our party to look forward to this year.
Brian kept busy during the close down and completed his plant holder at home – top left.
Eleanor showcased all her new found metalwork skills and completed a really nice plant pot stand – bottomleft..
This year the new starters will be learning how to weld.

Patchwork 1

Better than the clothesline! These members of the group are the proud stitchers of this quilt and rather liked the super Jackson Pollock used as backing.

Fiona has delivered it to the housekeeper at Phyllis Tuckwell, having first added a label ‘Love from Camberley u3a’.
